This project is the first major regeneration scheme of Grade 2 listed houses to be given funding by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Their grant is for the restoration of the architectural uniformity and increasing the understanding of energy efficiency in historic buildings by improving thermal efficiency. This funding is for the private owners, and Bolsover District Council are funding both the architectural uniformity works and the refurbishment of their properties. The Bolsover Colliery Company built the ‘model’ in the 1890’s, exemplary in its provision of housing, schools, community centre, shop, church, orphanage and recreational facilities. The colliery closed in the 1990’s, and the original purpose of the village ceased. The project, led by BDC and part funded by the HLF, involves the restoration of the hundred and ninety-four listed houses (designed in the manner of the early garden cities movement) to provide a revitalised, sustainable community for both the council owned properties and the privately owned ones (approximately 30%).
Planning and conservation area approval for a mixed use fifty-four apartment building on the edge of Sunderland city centre.
Dating back to the 14th Century, the building had been altered many times. Working with South Shropshire District Council and the local building trust we removed the sixties additions, consolidated the stone ground floor walls to form a café, workshop and electricity generating waterwheel (using the original mill race) and new commercial offices and community office on the new first floor.
Environmental improvements have promoted the transformation of the Edge Hill Conservation Area through sensitive and well considered intervention and public realm remodelling of this historic neighbourhood.
The major regeneration of the last remaining back-to-back houses in Liverpool (listed Grade II), the major rebuilding of the Grade II* merchants houses to form apartments, and the addition of two new contemporary buildings forming apartments and a seventy place nursery in the city centre.
Our twenty year association with this Grade I listed church has including five QIR’s, major roof repairs, stonework replacement, stained glass and leaded light repair and renewal and wrought iron repairs, we also managed the replacement of the bell frame and augmentation to six bells with the aid of Millennium Lottery Funding. Our most recent work was for the small extension for a chapel and communal facilities.
Having advised the PCC on the building fabric for many years, we worked with them to secure a Heritage Lottery Fund grant for the major repair and restoration works. CADW spot listed the building Grade II prior to receiving the grant.
The external restoration of a Grade II listed Victorian hall which had previously been converted into leasehold apartments. We were the contract administrators, conservation architects and CDM-C’s on this traditional JCT contract on behalf of Places for People.
