A five storey extra care scheme designed within the setting of the Grade I listed St Mary’s Church.  The design works in conjunction with the adjoining College Croft development providing additional facilities via a glazed link bridge.

Fox Street Extra Care is new build five storey development located in the heart of Eccles Town Centre, within the setting of the Grade I listed St Mary’s Church.  The four million pound development is part funded by the HCA and aims to address the shortfall in suitable housing for the over fifty fives within the local community.

Offering twenty-four self contained apartments, along with facilities such as a laundry room, assisted bathing room and a wellbeing room on the upper residential floors.  Four of the twenty-four units are two bedroom apartments with wheelchair accessibility, with the remainder being one bedroom apartments.

The ground floor offers a north to south open plan restaurant / bistro area, a break-out patio and a walled garden surround this internal space.  Internally the open plan area offers the residents various micro seating environments, from light sun-lit open zones to sheltered conservatory spaces.

The Fox Street development is linked to the existing adjacent high-rise tower block, College Croft via a bridge link and lounge at first floor level.  The bridge link not only connects the two buildings with a communal seating area but it also provides a sharing of facilities between the new block and the existing tower.

The design of the development respects the existing views of St Mary’s Church. Its sympathetic form offers glimpses of the church tower while glazed cuts through the building provide views out to the church yard.
