The site was occupied by a 1970's Trinity Methodist Church and church hall which were vacant for a number of years.
The site fronts onto West Derby Road, a major route into Liverpool city centre. The proposed development strives to sympathetically restore continuity and massing to this corner of West Derby Road and the overall urban fabric.
The mixed use development in this area of Liverpool aims to provide a quality commercial space, improving the West Derby Road retail offer.
The proposal is for a four storey mixed use development. It consists of a ground floor retail space, above this sits three floors of residential units, there are seventeen units in total comprising of a mix of one and two bedroom apartments. A community room is located on the third floor of the development with an external terrace area with a view towards Newsham Park. All apartments fronting onto West Derby Road have balconies with a view towards Newsham Park.
The overall appearance of the proposal is a buff brick in keeping with the local colour palette. Movable timber slat sunscreens animate the front elevation of the proposal allowing the residents to control the location of shade needed as the sun tracks across the sky.
A matching timber clad boxed bay window overhang wraps the predominant corner of the site providing a focal point. This new development sets a new modern standard for the area and completes the elevational continuity on this main road offer.
