The Scowerdons, Weakland and Newstead (SWaN) was an initiative to redevelop a series of housing estates at the south eastern fringe of Sheffield.  Phase A profides a contemporary design interpretation through a themed hierarchy of streets and lanes based on an agreed urban design code.

The previous estates suffered from a number of construction defects typical of the 1960's.  Following extensive community consultation, the City Council cabinet approved phased demolition and redevelopment of the existing dwellings in conjunction with Home Group as its development partner.

HLP, as part of the designer’s framework panel, has led as lead designers for the Newstead estate.  The choice and type of new housing provision is closely suited to the needs and aspirations of both local returning and future residents.

Phase A, consisting of fifty-four homes is complete, providing a contemporary design interpretation through a themed hierarchy of streets and lanes with traditional materials and integral soft and hard landscaping.
