This innovative project has transformed the environment and the appearance of former local authority estates.  The scheme tackles poor living conditions through improving thermal performance, accessibility and image.

'B Green’ is an award winning regeneration project in Oldham. First Choice Homes Oldham partnership have invested over £20m in improvements to existing built stock, environmental improvements, health & safety and community pride projects.

HLP undertook environmental masterplans for three large estates in Oldham improving the landscape, accessibility and sense of place.

HLP designed the overcladding of maisonettes and system built housing.  These EWI works were part funded by British Gas with the aim of tackling fuel poverty.  The insulation increased thermal values to meet modern standards and the existing coal fired communal boiler was replaced with an efficient biomass boiler.

The appearance of the buildings has been transformational, by using a simple background palette of colours with key highlight features the areas have been given distinctive characters.  The opening up of the enclosed staircases has created new entrances to the larger blocks increasing permeability and accessibility.
