A neighbourhood of small, semi-derelict, two up two down has been revitalised in the shadow of Liverpool FC Stadium.  The neighbourhood has been transformed through a range of interventions including an environmental masterplan and a housing remodelling programme.

As part of the Anfield Regeneration Project, Anfield Village is a model of refurbishment working within an area of small terraced houses to create new layouts for one, two and three bedroom properties within a variety of ownerships, enhancing variety, choice and diversity in the housing offer.

Models for one, two and three bedroom houses are able to be adapted into single properties.  By combining properties to create a two into one house, the existing ‘two up two down’ properties of 45m2 create a spacious 90m2 family house.

The one bedroom property has a small single storey extension with a roof light, and the two bedroom property has a two storey extension.  Both have ground floor cloakrooms.  The ‘two into one’ combines two properties to create a three bedroom home or a two bedroom house with a study.  By demolishing the old rear extensions a new garden area and patio are created.  This transforms the house, giving much needed amenity space.  All the properties are insulated to modern standards with quality kitchens and bathrooms.

This diversity of housing offer ensures that local housing needs can be met and the neighbourhood sustainability does not rely on one archetype.

The fact that these models can fit into existing streets with varied ownership, has stimulated refurbishment of the private sector houses and created transformational change in Anfield.
