Sixties high rise blocks in the town centre have been remodelled to create a new image, identity and local landmark.  The colours used are based on the palette of LS Lowry, a well known artist who lived locally.

High rise blocks in Eccles Town Centre have been remodelled to generate a landmark flagship project which will enhance the image of Eccles and Salford at a key gateway.

Strategically positioned at a motorway junction, the remodelled blocks provide a strong sense of identity and promote the sustainability of Eccles Town Centre.

The blocks have been overclad to enhance insulation, comfort standards and energy efficiency, and the opportunity was taken to radically change their image.  A key design theme was the use of the Lowry colour palette based on the five colours used by the local artist:

•   Prussian blue
•   Vermilion
•   Yellow ochre
•   Ivory black
•   Flake white. 

The materials have been closely managed through a contextual design approach to form a sensitive backdrop to the Grade I listed St. Mary’s Church and the Grade II listed Lamb Hotel.
