The courtyard designs at Hulme achieve a peaceful communal seating area with sensory planting, enclosed by pergola structures and soft landscape including raised beds for communal gardening.

Delivered by HLP for Places for People within the Green Spaces for People initiative; HLP worked closely with residents through a series of consultation events, including interactive site models, to develop designs for two courtyard open spaces which offers a range of opportunities and interest for the whole community.

Creative working with community artists contributed to new opportunities for informal play. Integrated lighting design provided security with subtlety and enhancing the quality of the space. The community is also supported by local social enterprise for delivery of horticulture and garden training and additional plant supply.
