Bernie joined the practice in 1987 and became an Associate Director of Halsall Lloyd Management Ltd, leading the sustainability and energy assessment team.
Bernie qualified as an Energy Assessor under the National Home Energy Rating scheme placing him at the forefront of energy assessment when the mandatory energy assessment of new housing (SAPs) was introduced by Government in 1991.
He qualified as a BREEAM Assessor firstly under the BRE ECOHOMES scheme and become a Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor under grandfather rights upon its creation in 2007. He subsequently qualified for the BRE Home Quality Mark at its inception in 2015.
With over 30 years’ experience, he has an extensive background in the commercial and public / private housing sectors covering all aspects of the architectural delivery process, including design, tendering, contract management and site supervision. He has particular expertise in historic restoration and the practical implementation of sustainability in all of its forms.
Bernie is passionate about environmental improvement and regeneration, successfully delivering the Anfield regeneration program on time and on budget and currently managing the Welsh Streets regeneration in Liverpool achieving a B energy performance rating to refurbished properties (new build standard), he has also recently completed restoration of 12 listed Georgian properties including 2 Grade 2* listed properties.
His schemes are grounded in a fabric first approach using proven solutions tailored to user lifestyles, requiring minimal resident intervention and delivering measurable carbon reduction.
Bernie also has a zero-defect approach. He has worked with numerous building insurance warrantee providers on both new and refurbishment projects under traditional contract procurement.
Bernie brings together his wealth of experience ensuring that the Halsall Lloyd sustainability team provides achievable, cost effective solutions to sustainability and using quality assured monitoring processes works closely with the design and construction team for the duration of the delivery period to provide the peace of mind that regulatory standards will be delivered.
